KUCHING: Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) is happy with the construction of the house for the family of late rabies victims at Kampung Paon Sungai Rimu Bakung, Serian which was completed earlier than scheduled.

A group from DBNA supreme council led by deputy president Charlie Ungang went for site inspection of the house yesterday to ensure its construction complied with the specification.

This is because DBNA was given the task to monitor the money for the construction of the new home for Mazlan Puzan, wife Elisa John and his four surviving children and their welfare.

Also present were DBNA vice president Joseph Jindy, secretary general Jubilant Austinway and treasurer general Asem Linkin and DBNA Serian chairman Raymond Achen, as well as Serian assistant district officer Constantine Noeb and village chief Stephen Empudot.

“The objective of the inspection is to ensure that the construction complies with the specification of the house. A few minor defects that need rectification by the contractor had been highlighted to get them done soonest.

“Overall, we are happy that the construction is completed earlier than the 3-month period given to the contractor. The family had moved in on Monday (Aug 7) after both the electricity and water supplies were connected to the new house. Now they can live in a decent home,” said DBNA in a statement issued here.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had personally allocated RM60,000 as special aid to build the new home for the family.

DBNA also received financial contributions from Sarawak Badan Amal Isteri-Isteri (Sabati), Persatuan Kebajikan Petra Jaya (PKPJ) and members of the Bidayuh community for the welfare of this family, including the education development of the couple’s remaining four children.

The loss of their children Monica, 6 and Jackson Mazlan, 4, who passed away due to rabies on July 4 had saddened the nation.

“We (DBNA) would like to give our appreciation on behalf of the family for all the help given during their time of need. Next, we will furnish the home with all the basic furniture.”
